Keep the Creative Juices Flowing - Issue #6: Keep it flowing!
Ciao!
Mauro here! How are you?
This is the issue #6 of this monthly newsletter about Creativity and it has been half a year already!
It's time to seriously ask for your opinion.
Can you give me no more than 2 minutes of your time to take this short survey?
Plus, there is another couple of "candid" videos of me talking to you in the Catch All section .
Ok, let we start!
Keep it flowing!
Yeah! This looks like the climax of this newsletter. Well, yes but no, this is still just the beginning.
Just look at the nature, what does prevent the flows of any kind?
Super easy: obstructions and obstacles.
So the easiest way to keep your Creative Juices Flowing is to identify and mercilessly remove the obstacles.
Here the main 3 Creativity Busters and following how I prevent, fight and remove them.
I made a super quick and rough simulation I called the Creative Adventure to explain this.
Give it a try. Do you find yourself in it?
1 of 3: Time
You may have read this quote:
“The only reason for time is so that everything doesn’t happen at once”
This is attributed to Einsten but in fact there is no evidence that he said that but I'm quoting it just to rephrase in:
“The only reason for time is so that everybody can create a plausible drama around it”
A bit rude, right?
But think about it, it is true, isn't it?
Looks like that Time is the biggest obstruction to Creativity. Fixing this is simple, maybe not easy, but simple: we need to make a choice!
And just like that... we have time now!
2 of 3: Resources/Materials
Next obstacle is resources and materials. Never enough, never the right ones... another source for plausible procrastination.
Everybody can complain and just wait, we, the Creative people, maybe don't need that much, expensive tools, expensive materials...
Think about most of Banksy works: a few bucks material to make millions dollars worth artworks. What Banksy has is a tool-set!
Just to make sure we are all on the same page, here my Sets.
By the way, I strongly suggest you to make a sketchnote like this!
It is a fantastic exercise that can teach a lot about you and what you think you need to be creative.
We have time, we have everything we need to start.
3 of 3: Motivation
Yes, I agree, motivation doesn't grow on trees, but we can make it easier for us to channel our Creativity by giving ourselves a choice.
This is my 3 Projects strategy, it's permissive enough to accomodate my mood and curiosity, is rigorous enough to keep me on track.
This works, really. It gives me the freedom to choose and follow my moods and it keep you focused at the same time.
How do you keep yourself motivated?
Hit reply and let we have a chat!
Signals&Dots
think: Nownownow.com
About the "What I’m doing now" page I mentioned above, I started mine some time ago after reading why I may need a page like that. I think is a good idea and you should consider making one for you.
In case, you can make and publish you page with a couple of the tools I have already suggested: Notion and Workflowy .
tool: Buffer
This is NOT an affiliate or sponsored link! I use this is the tool since ages to schedule my tweets when I need to. They have an awesome free tier which is more that enough for me. Among all the features they have, there is the "Start Page" you can use to build your "link in bio" page but is also very good for your "now" page.
think: Time anxiety: is it too late?
This is an interesting 6 min read about the time conundrum seen from another perspective. Rather that worrying about having not enough time, time anxiety is about the fear of wasting our time.
The Catch All
Maybe you don’t remember or you have never seen them, I’m talking about the Sketchnote Bento.
I'd like to tell you a story about the Sketchnote Bento!
Do you have some more minutes? 14, precisely.
This is a video about my way to quickly make boxes.
No need to take precise measures, just eyeballing.
Are you going to make your own tool-box?
If yes, please share some pictures!
