"Who's on first" - Creativity and Ambiguity
When things turned out to be not what they were meant to be
Ciao!
Firts, let we have a bit of fun with Ambiguity.
Uh boy! This never gets old…
I believe that Ambiguity is the most dangerous of the VUCA quartet. Ambiguity is devious, it is very smart in showing itself as a Certainty and it’s not uncommon to believe it.
If I ask you:
“Please draw a slide for my presentation with a red marker”
Do you draw the slide using a red marker or you make a slide with the picture of a red marker?
Besides the actual trickiness of an ambiguous statement, there are a lot of proven psychological reasons for Ambiguity to succeed. Among others, I find False Consensus Effect and the Abilene Paradox particularly common when it comes to rush decisions.
Does this happen to you?
