Hey, ciao!
Happy New Year!
This is the first Official 2023 edition and we are now on Substack.
Service Note
I’ve received a few requests about the font size of this newsletter (too small). I’m afraid I can’t fix it because it is defined by the platform.
For those who find the text too small I can suggest to download the Substack app. It has a nice feature to customise the reading experience. Plus, it is very good and it has a chat too!
Back to the topic.
Enjoy!
What is this Honey Badger thing?
In time, the term “honey badgering” has been coined and today it has different meaning in different contexts.
In our case “honey badgering” is synonymous with being decisive, confident and strongly determined.
This is the original video. It’s a fun video and it gives you some hints to the “references” in the next sketchnotes.
Why Honey Badgering is important for Creative People
First things first: give yourself a Purpose
Second: don’t listen to Nay-sayers and Killjoys
Third: believe it, with your heart, with your mind, with your gut and go for it, no matter what
You did it! Now the easier part: make it happens!
I would like to close with a gentle “nudge” about the comments and the chat. I’m convinced that interacting and sharing would give a really new and important value to this space.
So I would like to inaugurate the “Creative Barbeque” in the Substack app Chat!
Signals&Dots
inspiration: The Scandinavian Design Trick that Transformed How I Hang My Art
This is not just about hanging stuff on the wall. If you read between the lines there is a lesson to learn and a trick to try.
If I think about what I do every day, everybody expect “regularity”, the world needs me to be predictable.
What if, I go off-center on purpose?
PS: I do this when I need an “impact”, in the majority of cases it works. When it doesn’t… it’s a mess, but this is a story for another time.
tool: TinyKiwi
Do you need a visual quickly? TinyKiwi is an easy to use and powerful image editor. I underestimated it at first but, even with just the free features, it rescued me several times.
tool: Overlap by Moleskine
Time Zones are a pain in the a**. At least to me. What if you need to find a good time for a call or a webinar for people in Europe, Great Britain, Washington DC, Portland and Sidney? Overlap makes you see the time in multiple places at once. I LOVE IT!
The Catch All
In the Part 1 above I suggest to “map” directions and your path. That can be a bit daunting, particularly to “foresee” what I want to become.
Years ago I made a tutorial for this called “From Visual CV to Life Mapping and beyond” that shows how to use a sketchnote to start from a Visual CV and “depict” your future self!
It’s about 8 minutes and I think you may find it inspiring.
Ok, we have polls here. Polls are kinda fun, right? Let’s try that with something I have in mind since a while…
I would like to add a gentle “nudge” about the comments and the chat. I’m convinced that interacting and sharing would give a really new and important value to this space.
One last thing, I would like to renew my invitation to join Refind.
Refind is the first app I open in the morning. It serves me a selection of 10 to 20 articles based on my interest and the algorithm really learn what I like the most and accept a lot of customisation.
Absolutely excellent! Give it a try.
My stuff
It’s time to renew my promises for this year:
This newsletter as well as “Sketchnote, Design and Make” are made out of my passion and love for Creativity.
It’s a NOT short yet rich newsletter. It’s once a month and, I may be wrong, I like to believe that I’m giving you something to think about that would last at least a month.
What I say, write, draw here come straight from my life, my experience, successes and (a lot) of failures. It is the true Mauro speaking here.
This is an AD free newsletter. I may collaborate with other people from time to time but only for the sake of creating the best experience and service for you or to promote the newsletter, but not for a profit.
There is no subscription, it’s free for all and I’ll do my best to keep it this way. Of course if you would like to support my work and buy me a coffee I’ll be moooore than happy.
Ok, I think I covered everything.
If you like this newsletter, if inspires or help you in some ways, why not to tell your friends?
That’s it!
As always, thank you so much for reading this edition! It was a honor spending time with you.
I’d LOVE to hear from you, so leave a comment, chat with me in the app, just reply to this email or DM on Twitter, even if we don’t follow each other.
See you on February, 6th 2023 at h7.30 AM CET and we will talk about
Echoes and Reverberations.
Happy new year, Mauro
Love it! Let’s badger all the honey out of 2023!
